Still life from below (first still life)
Still life from below (first still life)
My first ever still life painting—in this still life I imagined being a kid again, looking up at my abuela, my mom, or any feminine energy that felt protective, powerful and sacred. That’s why everything in this piece is viewed from below—like a shrine of objects that once felt larger than life.
The gold cherub candle reminded me of innocence and protection. The floral shawl felt like warmth, strength, and softness. The Virgen de Guadalupe candle is a symbol I grew up seeing everywhere. And the bottle of Florida Water—used spiritually to manifest and bring good fortune—felt like a quiet ritual, a kind of everyday magic.
