In Our Evolution Becomes What We Once Desired, I reflect on the internal negotiations of identity, self-worth, and desire through the lens of adolescence. The digital collage draws from queer visual language, vintage iconography, and Mexican-American cultural references to explore how we compare ourselves to others—especially during formative years.
The mirrored figures at the center symbolize self-reflection and the often competitive process of measuring up, while also radiating a quiet defiance and unacknowledged beauty. This work revisits the confusion and hope I felt in middle school: not yet knowing who I was, but believing—despite it all—that I would become something greater. The piece suggests that transformation is less about change and more about revealing what was always there.
